Abernethy Laurels Host Encore Players

Hickory Community Theatre's Encore Players entertained over 100 residents, guests and staff at Abernethy Laurels with their production of "The Perils of Precious Penelope" during a mini dinner theatre last evening.
As a sponsor of the Encore Players, Abernethy Laurels residents are treated to a private performance each year. At this year's special evening the attendees enjoyed a dinner of pizza and beverages, then light refreshments during intermission. One resident commented it was "just as nice as any dinner theatre I have been to and I didn't even have to leave my community".
The performance was about a group of touring actors that have been abandoned by the producer at Hickory Music Hall. Some of the cast have already left the production selling costumes and props to buy train tickets home. The few cast members that have decided to stay with the production attempt to put on one of their repertory pieces. Making do with what remains of the costumes and props, doubling parts and being unfamiliar with the missing actor's roles, the performance becomes an unintended comedy.
