Abernethy Laurels, a continuing care retirement community located in Newton, NC on Highway 16 South was the site of an old-fashioned Block Party on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Guests arrived via the Abernethy Laurels shuttle bus, golf cart, cars and even by walking through the community. After being served a scrumptious lunch of barbeque, baked beans, potato salad, fruit, dessert and beverages, residents and guests were invited to mingle, get to know each other and make some new friends. The day was a warm one, but the welcome given to guests was equally as warm and inviting. Providing entertainment for the fun afternoon was the GMC Jazz Band, from Lincolnton.

Some guests were curious as to the amenities offered at Abernethy Laurels and wanted to visit the available home sites, talk to residents about their experiences, what activities were offered, see the community and generally enjoy the afternoon with their new-found friends.
