Positive Story to Start 2016
January 1, 2016
The day before Christmas Eve several employees from our Environmental Services team went out of their way to spread holiday cheer to our residents. Donned in a Santa suit and elf outfits, the team made their way through our building giving out gifts and putting smiles on the faces of our residents.
Once finished with their good deeds, EVS employees Teresa Salyers and Christy Bumgarner left work and went shopping at our local Walmart in Conover. Nelson, one of the store managers, noticed how festive Teresa and Christy were. He inquired about the elf outfits they were still wearing. Teresa and Christy told the manager that they worked at Abernethy Laurels and that they enjoyed dressing up because it made the residents happy. Apparently Nelson could tell the two employees had their hearts in the right place because on behalf of Walmart in Conover, the store donated a new 12ft. pre-lit Christmas tree to Abernethy Laurels. If you have priced artificial Christmas trees, you probably know that they can be rather expensive.
The purpose of sharing this story is not to encourage all employees to solicit donations, but to remind us all that the passion we have for our jobs and the love we have for our residents always shines through – on or off campus, on or off the clock.
Thank you ladies for your compassion and positively representing Abernethy Laurels!
We also wish to thank Walmart- Conover for their generous donation of the Christmas tree!
