We Made a Good Choice

September 15, 2020

Pat and I moved to Abernethy Laurels almost exactly 10 years ago.  That was at the end of searching for a CCRC, a continuing care retirement community, for over 2 years. We were living in Florida at the time and wanted to relocate closer to our daughter, who was then living in Pennsylvania. By the time we made our decision to move to Abernethy Laurels, our daughter and her husband had decided to sell his business, take an early retirement, and moved to Denver, North Carolina.  That made our choice easier in the end, but it was not determinative.

We had planned from the time I retired that we ultimately wanted to live our final years in a CCRC, so we took our time in searching for that place.  We concentrated our search to the state of North Carolina, and found several CCRCs that were interesting to us.  Ultimately, we liked the feel of Abernethy Laurels. We liked the green, park-like campus, we liked the freedom of choice in the food plan, we liked the active lifestyle which incorporated trips, exercise programs, and a variety of group programs for residents, we liked the house which was to become our  home.  And then, ultimately, although not part of our original plans, we like the feel of our daughter living only a half hour drive from us, with us living in Abernethy Laurels.

So when we made our move to Abernethy Laurels, we felt we had made a good choice.  It wasn't until we moved and had lived here for awhile, before we found that perhaps the best reason for living here is the really good staff that runs Abernethy Laurels.  They are dedicated professionals, personally interested in the well-being of all their residents, and simply just fun to know. For all of our careful search, we probably had to be lucky to find Abernethy Laurels as such a good fit for us.  We are glad to have been so lucky.
