Salem Witch Trials

October 30, 2019 at 2:00pm

Curious about why Salem, Massachusetts is so synonymous with Halloween? Salem’s connection to Halloween begins with the tragic events that unfolded during the Salem Witch Trials. Over 200 men, women and children were accused of practicing the Devil’s Magic or witchcraft. Since then, the story of the trials has become synonymous with paranoia and injustice.

Join presenter Carl Shatley on a look back over 300 years later to find out why so many were accused and too many had to die in the name of the law. To what extent do the historic records show that the accused were innocent until proven guilty? Carl Shatley is an accomplished educator, lecturer and artist who holds a Master of Arts degree from Duke University in History and Bachelor of Arts in Art degree from Greensboro College.
