Abernethy Laurels to Offer Adult Grief Support Sessions
March 1, 2016
Abernethy Laurels, a continuing care retirement community in Newton, has started a grief support group for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The next session will take place on Wednesday, March 2 at 4pm in the Community Center at Abernethy Laurels. The group will meet every other Wednesday at 4pm. These sessions are free and open to the public.
The grief support group is co-facilitated by Director of Spiritual Life Rev. Dr. Susan Roddey and Director of Social Services Megan Smith, both of Abernethy Laurels.
“Our grief group offers a combination of education and support,” Roddey Said. “The group becomes a place for people to meet others who have experienced the death of someone close.”
“In this confidential and intimate environment, participants will have a chance to share concerns they might feel uncomfortable saying to family and friends. Together, with facilitation, the group members share ways to cope with their altered situation, realizing that grieving and adjusting will take time,” stated Roddey.
