Abernethy Laurels Plans Thanksgiving Blood Drive

November 18, 2016

Abernethy Laurels is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on Wednesday, November 23 on the campus of the retirement community.

“Recent natural disasters like Hurricane Matthew left a path of destruction along the southeast coast. Events like that forced the cancellation of more than 50 Red Cross blood drives in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia resulting in a large amount of blood and platelet donations to go uncollected,” said Shaylyn Ladd, Abernethy Laurels Public Relations Director and blood drive organizer.

There is an urgent need for all blood types. Donors should be healthy adults 17 and older who weigh more than 110 pounds. All donors should also drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine on the day of the drive.

The drive is scheduled from  12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Community Center at Abernethy Laurels. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Those interested in donating can visit redcrossblood.org (use sponsor code: Abernethy) or contact Shaylyn Ladd at 828-465-8028.
