Accomplished Artist and Historian to Present at Abernethy Laurels
March 1, 2019
Abernethy Laurels will welcome presenter Carl Shatley to their campus on Thursday, March 7 at 2pm for a presentation on American Impressionism. The community is invited to attend.
Impressionism emerged from France and influenced many artists in Europe and America - but in America impressionism in painting took on a life of its own. America produced a number of impressionist painters such as John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt and Childe Hassam, but others remained obscure. Turn of the century America was a golden age in US history and the creation of wealth, due to industrialization, which played an important part in the American appetite for art.
Presenter Carl Shatley will share details about a little known segment of American art history, Impressionism. Shatley holds a Master of Arts Degree from Duke University in History and Bachelor of Arts from Greensboro College. He is an accomplished lecturer and artist.
Reservations to attend can be made by calling Rob Hartsell at 828-465-8519.
