Annual Newton Holy Week Service to be held at Abernethy Laurels

March 31, 2017

Abernethy Laurels, a continuing care retirement community, is hosting the Annual Newton Holy Week Service on Palm Sunday, April 9 at 4pm in Spirit Place, located in the Community Center of Abernethy Laurels.   The community-based worship service, titled “From Celebration to Betrayal,” is open to the public.

As a collaboration with area church leaders, the Newton Ministers’ Association continues their tradition of organizing and taking part in this service. Several area pastors will be leading the service. Rev. Ryan Brakemeyer of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ will be preaching and a community choir will be directed by the Rev. Lutz Keller. “We will move from the excitement of the crowd as they welcomed Jesus with palm branches on his way to Jerusalem, to the Last Supper he shared with them before he was betrayed,” stated Rev. Susan Roddey, Director of Spiritual Life at Abernethy Laurels.

Abernethy Laurels is located at 102 Leonard Ave. in Newton, just off of Highway 16. There will be parking and directional signs visible for guests.  For more information, please contact Rev. Dr. Susan Roddey at 828-465-8546 or [email protected]
