Colonizing & Conquest – Viking History to Come Alive at Abernethy Laurels

Newton, NC – Abernethy Laurels invites the public to a presentation that will take guests on a fascinating journey through medieval times, when Viking fury was feared and revered. The program, Vikings: Stars of the Dark Ages, will be held on Thursday, September 23 at 2pm on the campus of the retirement community in Newton.

Presenter Carl Shatley will speak about the Viking Age, a period during the Middle Ages when Norsemen, Vikings, undertook large-scale raiding, colonizing, conquest, and trading through Europe and eventually reached North America. Shatley is an accomplished educator, lecturer and artist who holds a Master of Arts degree from Duke University in History and Bachelor of Arts in Art degree from Greensboro College.
